Johnny Duel started his art life on the walls and trains of Melbourne in 1983. Drawing on the movement of aerosol art that gripped the world in the 1980’s Duel and his crew pioneered the Australian graffiti scene. As Duel mastered his medium his focus became the development and advancing of his lettering into a complex interlocked wildstyle form for which he has become renowned. He has painted commissioned and personal murals around Melbourne and throughout Australia and has exhibited his work on many occasions. His style is known around the world for its multi dimensionality and complex colour detail. The evolution of Duel’s art in the 1990’s until the present has led him to move beyond 2 dimensional surfaces to the creation of 3 dimensional free standing sculptures. Duel continues to paint works on walls and canvas as well as creating his major sculptural works which blow the existing parameters of graffiti and advance the aerosol art form.
