Emma Stuart has been working as a visual artist and professional children’s book illustrator for the past 12 years. Stemming from her illustrative background the focus of Stuart’s fine art practice in the years prior to 2011 has been on creating delicate ‘micro-scenes’ using water colours, acrylics, oils, gouache, pen, ink and pencil. Often composed full of playful characters these works are imbued with a sense that a specific iconic moment has been captured in time.
In her most recent fine art practice, Stuart has continued to create works that are intricate and detailed yet she has scaled up the overall size of the surface she uses and moved into painting purely in oils on linen. This scaling up of her work has elevated her work from an inventive depiction of ‘micro scenes’ to becoming an artist capable of creating monumental works that capture and acutely accentuate the omnipresence of nature.
