Paura
Paura is an exhibition of photographic prints from Melbourne artist Joel Zika. Following on from his successful show Terrible Presence (2004), as part of the Next Wave Festival, these works continue Zika’s exploration into the seductive world of the gothic movie genre. Zika’s work explores scenes and emotions which are familiar but seem distilled to a pure form, we see a two dimensional exploration of similar brooding and fantastic spaces. Through digital technologies Zika evokes much of the beauty and atmospheric density not only of gothic cinema but much of the earlier era of impressionistic film making.
