Rius Carson
| Date of Birth: | 15 February 1976 |
| Origin: | Horsham, Victoria |
Absorbing himself in the creative process at his studio near Bendigo sculptor and painter Rius Carson works deftly across two mediums creating works that resonate a primal power and at the same time give voice to his concerns about contemporary issues. Thematically Carson’s two and three-dimensional works contain poignant messages that look at issues relating to environmental degradation and the implications of our current modes of behavior on our collective future. Stylistically Carson’s work is spontaneous yet deliberate and measured. Carson’s sculptures achieve balance through the initial phase of carving with a chainsaw followed by more detailed and deliberate working of the wood. In his paintings Carson builds up his surfaces in numerous sessions adding texture and a complex interplay of colour and brushstrokes layer upon layer.
