The Last Dinosaur
In The Last Dinosaur Carson’s two and three-dimensional works contain poignant messages that look at issues relating to environmental degradation and the implications of our current modes of behavior on our collective future. Carson’s new work is a continuation of similar themes that he has explored in previous shows highlighting the beauty and chaos of nature as well as the contradictions of the humanity’s path to progress.
In this new exhibition global warming is of particular concern to Carson and in commenting on the changes that are unfolding during our lifetime he makes the comparison between the extinction of dinosaurs and the path of humanity. In essence the symbolic message of the last dinosaur is that as humanity continues with its current version of progress we enter a period in which there is a real possibility that we will reach a point of no return. Carson’s last dinosaur ponders how this occurred and why this was not avoided.
